Clinton Named a "Best for Vets" School

Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Clinton Community College was named to Military Times’ “Best for Vets: Colleges 2015” list. Clinton is number 16 on the list, one of only two community colleges in New York State to make the list.

Tracy Guynup, Assistant Registrar and Veterans Affairs Officer at Clinton states, “I am so pleased that we have been recognized by Military Times as one of their Best for Vets colleges for 2015. This is especially great because it is the second publication that has recognized Clinton Community College for 2015 along with making G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Schools list for 2015. These recognitions mean that we are giving the right kind of support to our student veterans. I am personally proud of this because I work with veterans every day and I try to make the work that I do mean something to the veterans and their families that I serve.”

This fall, over 100 military-affiliated students are enrolled at Clinton. Clinton’s student-faculty ratio, academic and student support services, active Veterans Club, and graduation rate have all contributed to the “Best for Vets” ranking. Military Times Announces the 140 Best for Vets: Colleges 2015

Fifth annual rankings factor in veteran and military students’ success rates

SPRINGFIELD, VA – Military Times today announced its Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 rankings. In their fifth year, the rankings factor in the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates.

As with all Best for Vets rankings, Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 is an editorially independent news project that evaluates the many factors that make an organization a good fit for service members, military veterans and their families.

The survey-based Best for Vets: Colleges doesn’t manipulate mainstream research to skew more “veteran.” The detailed survey requires schools to meticulously document a tremendous array of services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to military and veteran students and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus.

“We factor in what is, to our knowledge, the most detailed school-by-school data on veteran students’ academic success anywhere, including graduation, retention, persistence and course completion rates,” says Amanda Miller, editor of Bets for Vets. Two years ago, only 11 percent of the hundreds of schools surveyed could provide that level of detail. This year, that figure is up to 45 percent. “By recognizing only the schools that do the most, we believe we’re helping to raise the bar in veteran student services.”
