Policy on the Development of the Adirondack and Juvenile CollectionsAdirondack Collection
The Adirondack Collection is comprised of materials related to local history and the North Country of New York State. This is a non-circulating collection since many of these books are unique and would be difficult to replace. Materials for the Adirondack Collection will be selected based on their relevance to area history. Juvenile Collection
The Douglas Library Juvenile Collection is intended for students preparing for a career in elementary education, as well as students enrolled in human development, psychology and sociology courses. The collection can be loaned to CCC and PSU students and faculty, and those with alumni and community borrowing privileges. Materials will be collected in book form only. The collection will be selective, rather than comprehensive, including fiction and non-fiction materials. Award winners, classics and banned/challenged materials will be the main focus for collection. As a rule, only one copy of each title will be ordered.
Juvenile books will be collected in the following categories:
1) Newberry and Caldecott winners.
2) ALA notable books.
3) Controversial books (banned/challenged).
4) Non-fiction (poetry, biography, science, etc.)
5) Books which reflect trends (death, divorce, alternative life styles, etc.).
